Aloha and Welcome to Sustainable Island Products
Sustainable Island Products is a family-owned, Hawaii-based distributor of more than 450 compostable and recyclable products. We supply eco-friendly and sustainable alternatives to many single-use items routinely used in Big Island restaurants, grocery stores, schools, hotels, and offices.
SIPs product lines include cold cups, deli containers, hot cups and soup containers, cutlery, plates, clamshells, napkins, paper towels, pizza boxes, glass bottles, and jars. (Visit our Showroom.)
An essential part of our mission is to take responsibility for doing everything we can to protect our beautiful island home. As part of this commitment, we recently became a Certified B Corporation, constantly striving to find new ways to be more economically and environmentally sustainable. (Take a look at Sustainable Island Products B Impact Report here.)
We believe our legacy is intimately linked to environmental stewardship. That’s why we guarantee the compostable nature of our products as well as the quality of their performance. Every day, we create a positive social impact while fostering a more natural and healthy Hawaiian economy.
But our commitment to protecting Hawaii’s eco-system extends beyond our product offerings.
Committed to a Greener Big Island
We give back a minimum of 20% of our profits to social, education, and environmental cause organizations throughout Hawaii.
SIP also offsets our shipping, delivery, and utilities-based carbon emissions through landfill gas capture, renewable energy products, and farm power projects.
Twice a year, we raise awareness of the important work of local environmental and social non-profits through our Cups for a Cause program. We design custom cold cups to highlight their efforts, and provide added support through a donation of $2,000 from cup sales to each organization we support.
About Our Products
All of our products are certified compostable, except for our glass bottles and jars.
We chose only to distribute compostable products because, in contrast to biodegradable or recyclable products, compostable products can be mixed with food waste at an industrial facility. Typically, they will break down in 12 to 16 weeks or less in a commercial composting site.
In comparison, biodegradable products have no set timetable to break down if returned to nature. Also, only 10% of all plastics are recycled in the United States, and about 25% of plastics placed in recycling bins still wind up in landfills due to contamination.
